RESEARCH

Our main reseach areas currently are:

1. Sub-mesoscale (SMS) dynamics, including: (a) modulation of SMS dynamics over the continental shelf; (b) contribution to cross-shelf exchange; (c) interaction of SMS with small scale turbulence; (d) Material dispersion by SMS flow.

2. Air-Sea interaction, including: (a) the modulation of air-sea fluxes by sub-mesoscale ocean circulation; (b) the interaction of the diurnal sea breeze with shelf sea circulation; (c) East Mediterranean Sea anomalous warming; (c) Formation, sustainence, and air-sea flux effects of the Surface Micro Layer (SML).

3. The dynamics and routes of the Global Oceanic Overturning Circulation, including: (a) Controlling mechanisms of deep and shallow ocean ventilation; (b) Remote sensing and machine learning of the overturning circulation. (c) Topographic constraints on circulation and overturning dynamics.

4.  Density Currents (aka Gravity Currents) and their dynamics within (a) Abyssal water outflow from deep water (overturning) formation sites; (b) River outflow plumes; and (c) density wave interaction with Internal Gravity Waves.

5. Turbulence in the bottom boundary layer.
